Our ENT Surgeon's Profile

Dr Mazita Ami obtained her medical degree (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Obstetrics) from the Queen’s University of Belfast in United Kingdom in July 1999. She returned home to Malaysia upon graduation and worked in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre. She later joined the Department of ORL-HNS (ENT Department), UKM as trainee lecturer and completed the four-year residency training in Masters of Surgery (Otorhinolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery). She was an outstanding student and received the Marhakim Award. She was also conferred the Schering Plough Young Investigator’s Award for her thesis on patients with tinnitus.

Upon completing her training, she continued to serve as a Senior ENT Lecturer and Surgeon at the Department of ORL-HNS, UKM. During her service with UKM, she was involved in various academic and administrative committees as well as research work and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. She was actively involved in the UKM Cochlear Implant Team, Newborn Hearing Screening Committee and Bone Anchored Hearing Aid Committee, to name a few. She also conducted the Vertigo and Tinnitus Clinic in UKMMC. She takes special interest in cochlear implant surgery, ear canal reconstruction and bone anchored hearing aid surgery. She is an accredited Specialist in ENT-Head & Neck Surgery by the National Specialist Register. She is also duly registered with the Malaysian Medical Council and the Academy of Medicine Malaysia.

Dr Mazita has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific ENT related articles in international medical journals including book chapters on nasopharyngeal carcinoma and obstructive sleep apnea. She has been invited as a speaker in numerous ENT workshops and conferences. Furthermore, she is an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Surgical Academia and is also a reviewer for the Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences. She partakes regularly at public health awareness or education programs by giving lectures or ENT screening.

She keeps herself abreast with the latest medical knowledge on patient management and updated surgical techniques by attending various ENT workshops and conferences internationally. She is indebted to all her colleagues and consultants who have contributed towards enriching her work experience and who has generously imparted valuable knowledge. And she is also grateful to her patients whom she has learnt most from. 

She is currently the Resident Ear, Nose Throat (ENT)- Head & Neck Consultant Surgeon at the KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital. She is also a visiting ENT Consultant Surgeon at the KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital in Shah Alam. Prior to joining the KPJ group, she was formerly practising in Columbia Asia- Bukit Rimau Hospital after she resigned from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
